HAPPY NEW YEAR

So here's the first post of 2006! Let's try and make it a good one, shall we?

My friend Jeff told me last night that he's started reading this thing and now demands more frequent posts. Thanks for hopping on the kenneymarlatt.com train there buddy, but I hate to break it to you: This thing jumped the shark when I switched to Blogger. Many would argue earlier. Anyhoo, on with the post...

So my first weekend in Los Angeles many years ago was a bust. I hated it. But, after my friends Dan and Angie migrated there from Brooklyn, I got the chance to spend some quality time in the Hollywood Hills and fell in love.

Their neighborhood, Bronson Canyon, is great. Cool bars. Little restaurants. Palm trees. Good stuff. But yesterday Defamer points me to an article on TMZ.com that says Bronson Canyon is the "new secret celeb neighborhood where the hot young stars live and play." According to the article, half the cast of the OC and Gilmore Girls has recently moved in.

Well, I for one say go away! It was such a nice, peaceful place! I remember having waffles out on the patio with Dangie on a sunny Sunday morning as birds chirped and neighbors walked their dogs. Now it's going to be all Paris Hilton and LiLo staggering to their cars after a Saturday night booze-a-thon at Vince Vaughn's.

But hey ... um ... Lauren Graham and Rachel Bilson? Well ... I guess you guys can stay. Coffee at the Pig next weekend? Say, noonish? Excellent.

BLOGOLUTION OR INTELLIGENT DESIGN? It appears we've come to a weird point in the evolution of blogs where, in some cases, certain blogs have become bigger than their authors. Such is the case with Wonkette, an inside-the-beltway blog started a couple years ago by Ana Marie Cox. The Washington Post reported Wednesday that Cox will officially step down as Wonkette author and the site will be taken over by two men. Seems odd to continue calling the site "Wonkette" - but what do I know. Certainly, we'll miss Ms. Cox, but God bless her for working an ass-effing reference into her farewell message.

IN NEWSPAPER-Y NEWS: The NewsDesigner reports that Denise Reagan will join the Times-Union in Jacksonville as AME/Visual Journalism. All of us here at the Internets wish her well and think Jacksonville has pulled off one hell of a coup.

MEANWHILE: Ted Koppel joins the Discovery Channel ... Warner Bros. is planning Ocean's Thirteen ... MacZealots points us to FetchArt, an awesome little program that gets album art for all your iTunes songs ... and Letterman tells Bill O'Reilly that 60% of what he says is crap.
