DEPAUW'S IN THE NEW YORK TIMES. DOAH!

I got an e-mail from Danks noting a story on DePauw's Greek system running in tomorrow's NYT. Specifiacally, the story is about Delta Zeta. If you haven't been reading The DePauw, I'll give you a moment to catch up:

>> DZ 'reorganizes,' loses 29 women
>> Editorial: Silence is deafening
>> DZ controversy sparks debates
>> Letter: Delta Zeta betrays ideals of sisterhood
>> Letter: DePauw community indignant too late
>> Letter: DZ situation does not merit personal attacks (This is a good one, the Nationals volunteers are the real victims here)
>> Bottoms delays DZ statement; Chapter moves forward with reorganization
>> Letter: Nationals' actions spineless
>> Letter: Campus to blame for DZ situation
>> Letter: DZ, no thanks for the memories (Dear Mom, Stop writing letters to the editor. You're not helping.)
>> Bottoms releases letter to DZ Nationals; Chapter reorganization moves forward

No time for that? Well, I'll try and sum up for you. DZ's membership was down, forcing Nationals to take action. As one of America's largest associations for the education and advancement of women, they decided to take a stand:

No Fatties.

The women of the house were essentially asked to re-rush for reps from DZ HQ, who then asked the dead-weight to pack their bags. For rush, they asked most of the women to stay in their rooms while some money-girls from IU did the recruitment work for them. Apparently, this caused a subsequent stir. Who knew?

So anyway, now there's a story in tomorrow's New York Times. It's got everything from Propsom's traditional greek sterotype survey to quotes from editors of The DePauw. Man, and here I thought I needed to stick with the Wall Street Journal for me DePauw-related coverage.

ON AN UNRELATED NOTE: There's an awesome quote from a prof in a Letter to the Editor: "If Gerald Ford were alive today, he'd roll over in his grave. "

I'm gonna hope that was a joke.

I'M AS OK AS YOUR FACE!

So I kept feeling like I needed to do some sort of Super Bowl post-mortem (Ha! Get it? "Post!") but I kept putting it off. So then I had other things to post ... but didn't want to until I got the Super Bowl post up. Then I was busy in Syracuse blogging for this whole other thing. So ... yadda yadda yadda ... we go three weeks without a post. Yeesh.

But like I said, I was out in Syracuse blogging for the big SND Best of Newspaper Design competition. Tried editing video on my laptop for the first time and that actually worked out pretty well. I made a little movie of one very lengthy Los Angeles Times entry that found its way onto Newsdesigner. I put together another short video giving a quick tour of the judging facilities. My cohorts on the SND28 International Web Desk also dabbled in video production with even better results. Some of their subjects were more serious, such as Gaspard's quick documentary about an award winning New York Times graphic. Then some others were ... less serious.

Regardless, it proved that we could shoot some pretty serviceable Web video using only point-and-shoot digital cameras. Pretty cool. (You know, for geeks.)

BARNEY QUOTE FROM THIS WEEK'S 'HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER': "Asking someone to come see your play is like asking them for a ride to the airport. Or to crash on your couch. Or to help you move. Call a cab, book a room, hire some movers. Friends don't let friends come see their crappy play!"

THE SKYWAY BOWL

So, I'm in the newsroom in Indy and I'm not gonna lie, that kickoff TD kinda took the air out of the room. But you know, that's why we play the whole game.

My friends up I-65, however seem to feel that the game isn't even worth playing. Take a look at Sunday's cover from the Sun-Times:

Crown 'em? What, is Bill Swerski the front page editor up there now? They may as well have gone ahead and put a score up there. "BERS! Two hunnert an twenny two to tree!"

DON'T LIKE THE FRAT PACK? EARMUFFS!

So Judd Aptow has a new movie coming out starring Seth Rogen of TV's Undeclared and Freaks & Geeks (and 40-Year-Old Virgin) and Paul Rudd. It's called Knocked Up.

So that's good stuff. You should also check out The Frat Pack Circle of Trust, which outlines the relationships between actors in various Frat Pack movies as Old School, Anchorman, 40-Year-Old-Virgin, Dodgeball, Zoolander, Starsky & Hutch etc.
